NYC Area Dog Friendly Spot #2- Forest Park Horse Trails

Zeke & I revisited the trails at Forest Park today. They are absolutely stunning after a good snow. We are lucky to live so close to such a beautiful oasis of nature in the middle of NYC.

I feel compelled to mention the safety of these trails. It is the running route that I feel least safe on. There have been attacks on women in the past with the perpetrator still uncaught. However, over the last year the police presence has really stepped up and I’m happy to say is continuing that way. Every time Zeke and I are on the trails we see police presence at the main trail’s entrance. This has been both uniformed cops and undercover cops driving around. On the weekends I have regularly seen mounted police actually riding around on the trails. I definitely feel safer during the daytime in winter- the trees are bare and you can see what’s going on around you. In the summer I will only use the trails if I have another person with me.

Today we saw one other person running, two cross country skiers, and a few people just walking around. The park itself is split up by a boulevard running through it. On one side there are the trails, a track, and various ball fields. On the other side is a skate park, carousel, nature walk around a pond, paved walking areas with benches, and the dog park.

Here we are heading to the dog park in the distance:
